Hi, I'm Karen,

I’m a mum of two, originally from Northumberland, but now based in the beautiful county of Cheshire, UK.  🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

Soon to qualify as an ICF registered Level 3 business coach, I run The Grooming Goddess Academy around my life as a mum, partner and also my salon where I now groom part time around my coaching. 

I qualified as a dog groomer back in 2009 and after working for someone else, I opened my own business around 18 months later. 

My customer base grew fast and within 6 months I was fully booked! 🐶 However, I was in such a rush to build my business and say “yes” to every single inquiry, I didn’t stop to think about the kind of customers I filled my diary with!

My pricing was an afterthought, my boundaries were almost non-existent and I worked every hour and often 6 days a week, always in pursuit of more. Always afraid to say ‘no’. 

Some weeks I’d pay myself £500, other weeks it might be £300…. I had no consistency and lived week to week, paying myself with whatever was left in the business bank account. Can you relate? 🩷

Within a few years, and by this time, a new mum, I quickly grew to resent my customers and my business. I  wondered how I could work so hard, feel so exhausted, and yet still not earn good money or step away from my business when I wanted to. 

I knew I needed to get a handle on things, but it just seemed so overwhelming & I didn’t know where to start. 

But ‘start’ I did, and using my qualifications in maths & business, former career experience in customer service and also a lot of further studying in marketing and branding, I built a Dog Grooming Business that aligned with my values and allowed me to be a more present (and a much happier) mum and person.

I lost customers that didn’t value me, not in any dramatic way, don’t worry, they just naturally fell away as I started placing my boundaries and addressed my prices.  My income started to provide me with a consistent and decent salary, and I designed my business so it gave me the freedom I craved.

 Did it involve upselling spa packages, add ons and constantly hustling? 

 No! 

Not in the slightest.

That’s not me.  It simply involved focusing on the basics, knowing my numbers,  learning how to market myself in the right way and to the right clients, knowing how to educate my owners on coat care and the importance of grooming and yes, placing boundaries that protected my work/life balance. 

The Grooming Goddess Academy is pretty much the embodiment of those changes. 

Step by step, I now teach and guide other groomers to slowly realign their businesses and gain that work /life balance that so many feel is unattainable. 

 
You can have the business you want, the money you want, and the balance you want. 

You just have to be willing to start.
